Launched in 1991, Footloose Sailing Association is the Northwest's premiere sailing program for people of all disabilities. We are dedicated to bringing independence on the water and competence in the sport of sailing to our disabled members.

Access Dinghy

The Access dinghy is a two person 10’ sailing dinghy with main and jib sails and simple joystick steering.  Designed in Australia and used world wide for disabled sailors, the Access dinghy is equipped with a 105 lb. centerboard which keeps her very stable and safe to sail in nearly all conditions. 

The wide hammock seats are comfortable and roomy.  She’s quick and responds well in all kind of wind conditions.   Footloose has 4 Access dinghies in its fleet.

Martin 16

The Martin 16 is a two person 16’ sport boat with self-tending main and jib sails and joystick steering.  She is extremely safe and very easy to sail. The centerline seating and 320 pound keel bulb make the boat stable in all conditions.  Designed with 1,100 lbs. of foam floatation, the Martin 16 is unsinkable.
Footloose has two Martin 16s in its fleet, one of which comes equipped with a special power-assist steering and sheeting system that makes sailing possible even for those with severe physical disabilities.

Columbia 21

Footloose has two Columbia 21 sloop-rigged, open cockpit sailboats in its fleet.  A safe, heavy displacement boat, the Columbia is capable of taking up to six sailors including skipper and crew.   Both boats are equipped with removable swivel seats for mobility impaired participants and are powered by 8 hp outboard motors.

Boston Whaler Safety Boat

Footloose operates a 13ft power boat to assist the Martins and Access Dinghy's to and from the dock and to provide a watchful eye on our boats while our participates enjoy the joy of sailing.

Communications

Footloose equips each boat with a 2 way radio and manual signaling device to insure that our dock-side control center stays in contact with all boats on the water.
